Are you my Daddy?

This is a great picture of Father and Son meeting for the first time. Alpaca farms separate the males from the females because alpacas can breed at any time. It is not unusual for a male alpaca not to see his offspring but when they do it is instant recognition. We have seen this a few times with our herdsires with their crias. Eventually Cisco will be in with his father, Will when we feel that Cisco is large enough to be with the male herd. Male alpacas are pretty tough on newcomer alpacas to their territory and the farm manager must feel pretty confident that the new guy on the block can withstand the initiation process. It is hard to watch for me but they do finally welcome the newcomers and spend lots of time playing, wrestling, and becoming good friends.

A blog with over 400 posts featuring our alpacas at Wissler Alpaca Farm located in Missouri. It is about other wonderful animals too. Each post has a picture or video for your entertainment. Hey, enjoy!
