Female alpacas are enjoying the 45 degree weather and so I am I. This winter has been nice so far - knock on wood. I actually am outside quite a bit enjoying and watching the alpacas play. They have been running and pronking quite a bit lately. I love it when the two baby crias lead all the alpacas for a race around the fields. They look so cute.

How to Clean Red Food Dye Off of a Carpet -- powered by ehow

Just tried new cat food and realized too late that it had RED FOOD DYE in it. Naturally my cat threw it up and I had a big stain on the carpet. WHY DO PET FOOD COMPANIES USE RED DYE???????????? I will be looking for a different brand to feed my cats. This worked so good that I wanted to share with all of you this video that I followed. I am going to try this on mud stains too that my darling dogs put on my carpet.

Spydr

We have had 10 cats appear on our property since we moved in 10 years ago. Most of them were very ill and we have brought them back to health. Spydr is the last cat that we found in our barn that was very sick for many months. Spydr happens to be my favorite cat. She is tiny - 6 lbs and is the most lovable cat around. But this little peanut head will not use the litter box upstairs in our house but will use the litterbox if it is in the basement. So it kills me that I have to keep her in our basement. I have her with three other strays that we found so she is not lonely. I fixed up one section of our basement that has windows for sunshine and the cats can look out. I have cat playhouse, cat tunnel, little chairs small couches, and little boxes all arranged in our basement. I visit the cats at least three times a day and do spend quiet time with them that I have found that I look forward too and enjoy. I can say that my upper level of my house is very clean since the cats are downstairs in the basement. That is a nice trade off for me because I would have never done what Idid if she used the litterbox upstairs. So sometimes pets take us in a direction that we might not have thought about and that is okay.

It is hard to believe that in January we are running around in light jackets and sweatshirts. We have a mulch pile that our friend's kids and grandkids like to walk and jump on. The alpacas are very interested in what kids are doing and so they hang around as close to the fencing as possible for a view of what is going on with those human rugrats.

For years I would wish that I lived in the country and would dream about having alpacas. Now that I look back I feel that having a herd of alpacas is much nicer than what I dreamed about. I had no idea how wonderful it is to look outside and see a herd of alpacas running and playing in the field. Never did I even come near to realizing the cuteness of a baby alpaca and how magical it is to watch the crias play. My husband I often feel like we got this wonderful gift that most people have no idea could exist for them. All season long there are so many magical moments with the alpacas and the best part is when we have visitors to the farm and they to realize what a wonderful animal an alpaca is especially when they are lucky enough to come to our farm when their are alpaca babies around. So my point of this post is that sometimes the dream is much better than you could imagine that it is.

This video reminds me of our house sometimes with all of our cats. One Christmas my cat Kita jumped on the fireplace mantel and knocked down the mirror and all of my most favorite decorations. We never never put bows on our presents as they are a cat attractor and we never leave presents unattended.

My husband and I spent part of a day this weekend filling holes with dirt in the field that Miss Rosie dog above dug. Rosie felt that she was doing her job going after the moles. Denny is always checking our fields for holes because when the alpacas get to running we do not want them breaking their legs by hitting a hole.

The alpacas legs are pretty skinny. We have had two alpacas that broke their legs in other ways so we try super hard to be safe. One alpaca when she was a cria was stepped on by another alpaca and the other male was wrestling another male and hit the hay bunk. Sometimes things happen but my husband and I try our best to be preventative. As usual when we were filling in the holes the alpacas were all around us being nosy checking out what we were doing.

Great Pyrenees puppy kissed by an alpaca at Wissler Alpaca Farm

In the video Grace is kissing our other Great Pyrenees puppy, Rascal a few years ago. Grace also kisses our new puppy, Rosie. I caught her kissing Rosie just the other day and had to smile at her sweetness and that she still carries on the tradition of kissing puppies.

I'm a cat... no wait, now I'm a bunny.

We have ten cats - six outdoor and four inside cats and all I can say is that they are all always up to something. Crazy thing is that we enjoy all of them with their different personalities. The alpacas really like the cats and I feel that is because they are a lot alike. We had automatic waterers put in the barn and the barn floor had to be dug out for the plumbing. Total chaos and the alpacas just loved it and so did the barn cats. Both of them were watching every step of the process and I had to keep running them off so the people putting in the waterers could work. They laughed quite a bit at the curiosity of the cats and alpacas and even commented on how they seem to be alike.

My husband and I just bought a new car over the Thanksgiving Holiday. We are excited about the new car but not as excited as when we get a new animal in our lives. Like JoJo pictured above our newest addition is much more fun than a car. A car gets you to and from places which is mucho important but an animal in your life brings companionship, lots of love, and definitely for us is more ENJOYABLE. Everybody has their thing and our thing is animals.

My husband and I are very thankful for our family and for all of our animal family. Both have brought us much joy in our lives. It is good for the soul to be thankful and to say thanks. ST. Ambrose an Italian saint says that no duty is more urgent than returning thanks.

Cisco's new buddy - Jojo

Cisco now has a new little buddy that he plays with. Jojo is a little fawn male alpaca that was born the day before Cisco. I just love to watch the two of them interacting in the field together. Usually we have several crias born at the same time. These last few years with the extreme heat and humidity early in the spring has caused our alpacas to abort. Last year after several pregnancy tests we were told that Maggie, Cisco's mother was not pregnant. I kept saying to my husband that Maggie sure is a crab I wonder if she is pregnant. Come May Maggie delivered us little Cisco. Cisco needed a playmate as he wants to run but the older gal alpacas can run with him but certainly do not want to run as much as Cisco wants to run and so we got Jojo. Eventually Cisco and Jojo will be sold as fiber boys together to some very lucky and good family.

Cisco is taking note of all the fall leaves on the ground. He has been very playful these last few pretty days of fall and can be seen leading the female herd in a run around the field. Cisco could be getting a new buddy to play with as I will be checking out another male alpaca his age this week. We shall see.

Peruvian Motown, one of our herd sires and Rosie, our new livestock puppy have a little competition going on between them for the attention of me and visitors to our farm. Both animals are very outgoing and friendly. Both are convinced that our visitors are here for one reason only, and that is to see them. Sunday, Rosie horned in when our visitors were making over Motown. This so upset Motown that he walked away in disgust at Rosie after he shoved her aside. Today while I was out cleaning up in the fields Motown came to visit me and planted his usual kiss on me. Naturally Rosie came running up to get my attention. Motown was so mad that he chased Rosie back to the barn and then came running back to continue his visit with me. I love the two of them and find this competition between the two quite funny. We have not experienced this kind of thing before with a livestock dog and alpaca vying for attention.
